My parents came to visit this summer (one of many) and took us to their time share, where we spent the day playing miniature golf and swimming. My dad and Ryan picked up their usual childish rivalry, challenging each other to see who could win at miniature golf. I think my dad won, but Ryan definitely looked cuter competing! Those two never stop!
We also had to make a couple of outings to feed Stretch, the giraffe at the ranch where Ryan works. Garrett loves him and is just tall enough to feed him, if he stands on his tiptoes and Stretch lives up to his name and bends all the way down over the fence. Scout, on the other hand, hides her face or pushes his away any time he gets near her. She doesn't quite understand the fascination we have with Stretch, and, frankly, finds him bothersome. Rowdy the rhino out there is impressive to see, but not nearly as fun, since we have two fences separating us.
I worked a lot as well, and Garrett learned how much fun babysitters are. In fact, one day when I was at home with the kids with a lot to do around the house, G said he wished I were a babysitter. That was my cue to pull out the Cootie game and some books with him! My mom also came to stay with the kids one week. It was really nice to see her develop deeper relationships with both of them, but mostly with Scout. At the end of the week, Scout even left my arms to go to my mom's, and she usually only leaves me for Ryan. It was a great summer, and much better than we thought it would be with an infant in tow. Here's to second babies and less neurotic parents!
