Disneyland, Day 2

We started the second, and last, day of Disney separated from the Ridgells. They went to meet some princesses, while we decided to take a Tom Sawyer-type raft over to Pirate's Lair. It was a fun island full of caves and other piratey things to explore. G and Scout loved it, although they could have done without the cave with the glowing lights and spooky recorded voices saying, "a curse be on you," everytime we reached for a treasure. They really didn't need to feel Davy Jones's heart beating in a locked treasure chest, either, but that was just one cave, and the others were just for exploring.

We met the Ridgells at Pirates of the Caribbean, and G and Anna were quite a pair - a pirate and a princess. Scout had fallen asleep on Ryan at this point, so we spared her the anxiety, and Ryan waited outside with her. I sat on a row with Anna and G. At one point Anna says to me, "This is a little scary." I assured her it was not real. She then asked, "This is pirates?" I told her it was. She paused to think, "And G likes pirates?" Sorry, Anna. There's a lot about silly boys that you won't understand. We avoided the gift shop this time, and made our way to the Jungle Cruise, where we ate some lunch. We didn't waste time at Disney, that's for sure. Scout loved the jungle animals. Then, I took Scout to get some ears, while everyone else rode Buzz Lightyear again. That ride wasn't Anna's cup of tea, either, but I think it was right up Joe Don's alley.

We took a few more pictures at Disneyland and savored all that we'd enjoyed there, and then headed over to California Adventure.

The rides there were cute, with lots of Pixar attractions. One ride took us through giant snacks to eat. Garrett had to have a picture near the slice of watermelon to show his Lito, since they share a love for it. We also made it, barely, to the Playhouse Disney Live show. Garrett and Anna loved it. Ryan said it was his favorite, since most mornings at our house are all about Playhouse Disney. We knew all the songs, and we all know how much Ryan loves to sing!

We went back to the condo to pack our stuff and then back to CA Adventure for the Pixar parade. It was really great. The fact that Lightning McQueen starts the parade and Mater ends it, was just icing on the cake for Garrett. He spent most of the parade with wide eyes and his mouth hanging open.

Somehow, we made it through the crowds and found a pizza place for dinner. The restaurant was surrounded by roller coasters, so G got it in his head that he needed to ride one. I kept telling him that it was going to be really fast with some dips, but he would not be dissuaded. There was a coaster called Mulholland Madness, that wasn't too bad. He and I road it together, and the reviews were mixed. It started high in the air with some fast hairpin turns. He loved those. Unfortunately, it ended with two fast dips, which did not go over well. He's never held me so tightly. He even freaked out as we came back to the start, because he thought we were going again. My reassuring words to him and calming voice took me back to my mom comforting me on Space Mountain many years ago, when I probably had no business getting on a coaster like that. I sorta have a history of convincing the adults around me to take me on rides that I was a little too young for. Anyway, later reviews were that it was scary but fun. We finished with a stop at the gift shop to spend Scout's money from Grandma and Lito. She got a Minnie doll and a Boo doll (Monster's Inc.). We changed the kids into p.j.'s before starting the drive back, and they were out in about 10 minutes. It was a fabulous vacation. Thank you, Mickey!
